How I Pitched This — No Reception Club Outfits for a New Era of Family Travel

I remember shopping for baby gear in late fall of 2019, only a few weeks before becoming a parent. Had I left purchasing a lot of important items to the very last minute? Yes, I did. Why was that? Because like more and more young parents, I refused to settle for products that didn’t exactly fit my lifestyle and planned usage. One of those products I put off buying was a diaper bag — because, despite months of searching, nothing lived up to my standards. There never seemed to be options that were gender neutral yet stylish and sturdy yet highly compartmentalized. I wanted a bag that could compliment our adventure-filled lifestyle, not force us to slow down.

I’m disappointed to say I never did find the “right” diaper bag before my now-toddler graced us with his presence. So the excitement I felt a few years later, connecting with Gemma and Daniel at No Reception Club for the first time as we worked to launch their flagship travel diaper bags in the late spring of 2022, was genuine.

Through their own experiences traveling with a baby, they developed a product that could change the diaper bag landscape. The Getaway Bag, a full-sized travel diaper bag, is gender neutral, well-structured and intuitive for use on the go. Designed to function seamlessly on a dimly-lit and cramped flight, while exploring a new city, or on baby’s first camping trip, The Getaway Bag is built with both top and side access openings and an odor/waterproof laundry compartment. It has stroller clips and straps, a padded laptop sleeve and a carry-on pass-through opening. The multitude of pockets mean you have ample room for all your essentials (wallet, chapstick, car keys, etc) plus all the toys and accessories your little one always seems to need. Inside the main compartment, the pack even comes with a small insulated lunch bag and two customizable shelves. Top it all off by throwing in No Reception Club’s Sidekick hip pack diaper bag (in a side pocket specifically designed to hold the Sidekick) and you have everything you could ever need for adventuring with a little one, in a bag that’s built to last.

No surprise that it wasn’t hard to start convincing folks how game-changing this brand and their bags were — particularly when connecting with editors and reporters who were parents themselves, and could relate to the struggle of finding the right diaper bag. Sharing my own personal experiences using the bag to travel with my toddler proved fruitful, when a positive media relationship and ongoing discussion around our mutual love of No Reception Club resulted in not one, but three pieces of coverage in two separate “Dream Outlets” for the brand. No Reception Club’s Getaway Bag was named Best Travel Diaper Bag of 2022 and 2023 by Babylist, and the must-have travel diaper bag for taking your baby on their first flight in Motherly.

Being able to connect on a personal level with media is not always easy for brands, but No Reception Club is able to accomplish this almost effortlessly. The products (and the founders behind them) provide the ideal jumping board for my colleagues and myself to evangelize their uniqueness, enabling genuine and ongoing conversations with journalists covering both parenting and travel spaces. It’s no surprise media and readers alike are catching on to this exciting new brand.
